A pony was today rescued from a stream after it fell into the water and was unable to climb out.

Crawley fire service was called to Gatwick Stream at Steers Lane, Crawley, at 5.15pm, using animal rescue equipment including lifejackets and lines to bring the pony towards the river's banks and then out of the water.

A vet was also called to the scene and performed an assessment on the pony once it was on land before concluding no further action was necessary.
