HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised for the daughter of a young mum who died unexpectedly last month.
Friends of Brooke Symes, from Furnace Green, raised £555.55 at a pampering day in her memory at The Hairdressers, in London Road, Northgate, on Sunday.
After the 21-year-old died on January 20, a girly-event she would have loved was organised, where donations were collected for her toddler Maisie.
And neighbouring salon The Barbers has agreed to match the sum raised, brining the total to £1,111.10
Becky Buckingham, 21, who helped organise the day, said it was emotional for the 50 people who attended.
Miss Buckingham, from West Green, said: "It was not a day to be sad, we were all thinking positively to raise as much money as possible for Maisie.
"Everyone dressed in bright colours and brought cakes with them so that it could be a time to remember Brooke.
"But we all had an emotional moment, Brooke's family are going through a difficult time and they made a big effort to come see us, and we all had a little boo.
"I think the loss of Brooke will hit me at her funeral.
"At the moment I still don't believe she is no longer with us and that I won't see her again.
"Her funeral will be the chance for me to say a proper goodbye."
Haircuts, eyelash extensions, eyebrow waxing and nail painting were carried out by five stylists in return for a donation.
The friends also released 100 pink balloons – and a few covered in stars – outside the salon.
Trays of homemade cakes were brought along, including one with Brooke's face printed on top with the message "sleep tight beautiful angel" written underneath.
A book of condolence was open throughout the day and this will now be given to Brooke's family.
Another friend, Rachel Simmons, has set up an online donation website which has raised a separate £1,120. This money will be split between the cost of the funeral and supporting Maisie.
Brooke's funeral is taking place on Friday at Surrey and Sussex Crematorium and will have a red theme.
Men are asked to wear red roses in their jacket button holes and women are asked to wear false eyelashes due to Brooke's love of them.
