Crawley-born American football star Tom Wort's dreams of playing in the NFL have suffered a setback after a reported injury.
It was believed the 22-year-old had been snapped up by the Tennessee Titans as a free agent but it has since emerged the team "waived" the right to do so after he failed a physical.
The Titans official website reported earlier this week that they had "waived undrafted rookie linebacker Tom Wort (failed physical)."
It is believed he had suffered a hamstring injury.
Tom, a former pupil at Ifield’s St Margaret’s CofE Primary and Ifield Community College, left for America aged 14 when his dad Brian moved out there for work.
The linebacker had been tipped as a likely pick for one of the NFL's 32 teams during last month's draft having impressed with college football team the Oklahoma Sooners since 2009.
However, although he was not picked up during any of the seven rounds the Tennessee Titans looked to sign him as a free agent.
The Kansas City Chiefs are also thought to have shown an interest so if Tom is able to get himself fit during the summer his chance's of finding another team may not be over ahead of the start of the season in September.
